Coursework Ideas 2

After deciding we wanted to do something within the Thriller genre we then thought about a storyline of the fim. After much discussion we decided that we would use the idea of a stalker film within the thriller genre. We looked at trailers such as 'One Hour Photo' and 'Sleeping with the Enemy' and felt we could be inspired by some of the ideas in the trailers. We then had to think about who we would be able to use in our trailer and realised that it would be easier if we could use younger people in the trailer so we tried to think of an idea which would include young people.

The final idea we have come up with is about two friends which are a boy and a girl. The boy in our movie has a crush on the friend who will be the girl in the film. The girl has no interest in the boy and this is when the stalking begins to occur in the movie. She starts seeing things and strange things begin to happen to her but she does not know who is doing it. We decided to keep the stalkers identity a secret as this fits in more to the thriller genre. Slowly the girl in our movie begins to go crazy and at the end of the film all would be revelled to both the girl in the movie and the audience watching. After coming up with this idea we began to think about what we would include in the trailer. Then we discussed that it would be a good idea to have some sort of symbol left behind by the stalker which we could include in the trailer and poster for the movie. Then we decided to use a chess piece in the trailer which the stalker would keep leaving behind every time he did something strange to scare the girl. I feel happy with the storyline we have come up with for our movie and I feel that we can make a successful trailer and poster with this idea.

This lead us on to thinking about a name for the movie. We thought of several ideas such as 'Hung up'. This title did relate to the movie however we decided that this name sounded like more of a title for a rom-com movie. After a lot of debating we thought of the title 'Checkmate' which we feel is quite effective as it links in with the idea of the chess pieces being used in the film. Overall I am happy with the title we have chosen for our movie as I feel it not only relates to the storyline but also is a title that would look good on our movie poster.
