After looking at several thriller posters I have seen some conventions that usually occur. One convention of a thriller poster is that they usually have one of the main characters on the poster. The photo of the character on the poster is quite often a close-up of their face. Also, the characters facial expression is usually seen to be very serious. The lighting on thriller movies posters is usually quite dark but on the faces of the people they tend to have light from one side of the face. Thriller movie posters tend to be quite simple looking and do not have a lot going on.
Thriller movie poster conventionally include quite similar colours which tend to be very dark and eerie. The colours usually seen are greys, black, white and reds. These colours are used on thriller movie posters as they give the poster a more sinister and serious look. The font of the title on thriller movie posters is typically red or black as these colours stand out and are not colours you would associate with being happy or fun and therefore they add to the intensity of the poster. You may also find that most thriller posters have weapons or knifes on them. This is typical iconography for thriller movies and shows the people seeing the poster that the film will include some violence. Tag lines are also used on thriller posters. These can be very mysterious tag lines which will draw people in and make them think about what it could mean about the movie. Thriller movie posters also include things such as billing boards which is the same as all other genres. This is something that is essential on a movie poster.
After looking at the conventions of a thiller movie poster, our group discussed what we would include on ours. We decided that we wanted our movie posters to fit in with the thriller movie poster conventions and not challenge them. Therefore we have thought about colours on our poster and we are going to use black, white and red. Also we are not going to make the poster too cluttered and have thought about using the face of the actress on our poster.
Rather superficial - more detail needed here.
